Try doing some actual meditation when you read. It really helps me because I can clear my mind and focus my thoughts rather than having thousands of thoughts flying through my mind. It sounds Eastern and New Age, but if you want pure concentration in anything, especially God time, meditation is my go to. Meditation plus praying the psalms is even better.

Nervous. Excited. Prepared and unprepared at the same time.
That is how I feel about my first day of teacher orientation today. I am very much ready to be a part of the amazing Breakthrough program, but at the same time am nervous about what is in store for me during the program.
How will I do as a teacher? As a mentor? Will I be able to teach adequately and make my classroom enjoyable?

Global Citizenry
After being in Africa in May, I feel much more international in my focus: I am paying more attention to international news, am thinking about how things I/we/everyone does effects the global picture, etc. I even went so far one day to say I am a “citizen of the world.” Crazy huh?

Summer is winding down. I head out to Boston and the Breakthrough Cambridge teaching program on Tuesday, the 21st for two weeks of training and then I have a month and a half of teaching rising 7th graders math and writing. Then on September 2nd I head out to Oxford for the semester.
